Don’t be afraid to ask… you might get a pleasant surprise.
There is often a belief that everything marketing related comes at a cost, and a princely one at that. It may be a thought that you have had yourself when considering marketing for your business, but have you ever stopped to think that notion through?
Does every bit of marketing you do for your business have to have a cost associated with it? Well if you are running digital campaigns through Google Ads, Social media campaigns on Facebook or using a tool such as AdRoll for remarketing purposes then sure there is going to be a price… But that’s not where it ends.
How many times have you heard the expression – The best form of marketing is word of mouth? Probably lots, and there is a reason for that… IT’S TRUE!
Do you remember having conversation with your friends and family about a product that you have used, that you just love?
Have you ever spoken with a colleague or business contact and recommended a solution to a problem they might have been having? Has anyone ever asked you for an opinion or suggestion on a product or service and you have happily given it to them?
Guess what? Word of Mouth marketing just happened, and it cost that company nothing.
Now I know what you are thinking.
You are thinking well yes that’s fine, but we are talking about big name brands here, way beyond the size of your own business. How am I supposed to compete with that, these companies a have spent billions over the years on branding and ad campaigns that have got them to where they are today.
That’s a fair point. But there is one thing you are overlooking and that is quite simply, people power. People power combined with social media. BOOM!
Now if you aren’t one for social media and Facebook isn’t your thing, let me start by saying.
You’re in business, it should be!
The benefits of Social Media for a business owner
I am by no means suggesting that being on Facebook is going to be the silver bullet for business sales or leads but having a presence can help. It’s simple process to set up a business page on Facebook, you can add a brief description and include links to your website, products and services, add a contact number… at the very minimum.
If you want to delve deeper you might like the idea of creating your own content to share, to tell the world about what you do, the solutions you offer or your range of products. All this has cost you nothing more than a few minutes of time to set up and a little more time invested into creating some content. You don’t need any more than 3 pieces a week.
Now it’s time to build your following
Well the first thing you should be doing here is asking all your friends and family to give your page a like and perhaps a share. Cast your mind back to the start of this article and how we spoke about recommendations and opinions sought, who better to ask to share this than those existing and relations hips of people who will support and trust you.
Ask for help… it works!
Just recently, Australian successful business builder and entrepreneur Dan Doyle took an opportunity to do this for his business and it paid dividends. His post went viral and was seen globally, all because he asked his friends and family to help spread the word.
Dan is a very successful; businessman and has built and sold over 20 businesses in 20 years, so he knows a thing or two about spreading the word. It cost him nothing only the time it took for him to ask for help.
So, if this is something you are yet to do for your business, ask yourself why? Then ask yourself why you aren’t doing it right now.
